028 Post It!
Let's have a quick chat.
My name is Adedamola.
I think I have started pretending, or even packaging for the public, and if I am being honest, I feared this would happen.
The idea of showing up a particular way, saying certain things, and projecting a level of wisdom has brought me to this place.
Someone asked me yesterday if I used AI to write my essays, and wow, I felt it. Apparently, she couldn’t really find the me element in what I wrote, or rather, when reading my article, I didn’t jump out at her. For the next 10 hours, if not more, I went back to read some of my articles, some close together and some far apart in time, and what I found was that there was a shift, maybe minor or major, depending on who you ask, but it was there.
At some point, I was childlike, my personality shown in my writing style, I cracked jokes, and caught cruise whilst still saying profound things. But somewhere along the line, I noticed the shift, almost like there was pressure to say things with utmost seriousness to get the point across. Let’s say I might have lost the plot.
What I knew Substack to be is: a place to express myself, be me however I choose, without any pressure whatsoever. And wait, before it starts to look like I want you guys to share in the blame, no, this time, I take full responsibility for this shift. Upon reflection, I can admit that I thought the more put-together I sounded, the more subscribers I would get. Sike!
I also thought that since I started having people I would always just be serious with, they would start to read my stuff. I feared they would find the not-so-upright things or the way I wrote to be unpleasant or beneath me (or the idea of me they had in their heads). What I have come to realise is that even they themselves have channels they go to just to be, so why can’t I? Substack is that place for me.
So moving forward, I would be coming here, on a light-hearted note, maybe with typos, so I don’t get the AI allegations (please let the beautiful writers breathe), and most especially, baring my heart to you guys.
You would appreciate that right?

Rooting for you, Dams💕
Love it!
